Science Friday is your one-stop shop for all things science, from the microbiome to Mars. The radio show, hosted by Ira Flatow, broadcasts live each Friday on public radio stations nationwide. We continue the conversation on our website with articles and videos, and our documentary podcast: Undiscovered. Check it out!
This is your chance to be a part of the action—Science Friday is currently offering a summer radio production internship.
Each week, Science Friday’s radio producers interview scientists from around the world about their groundbreaking and newsworthy achievements (and we report on the occasional weird animal discovery). SciFri producers pitch show topics, pre-interview and book guests, gather sound, write on-air copy and questions, and manage the logistics of the live show. Science Friday radio interns will assist in every step of that process—and yes, you will learn to channel the voice of Ira!
Radio production interns must be available to work in Science Friday’s midtown Manhattan office for 25 hours a week. Daily schedule is flexible apart from Fridays. Interns with production commitments for the Friday show must also be easily reachable by email/cell even when off-site. The radio internship will last 12 weeks, and the pay will be $15/hour. Start date is flexible—mid to late June.
The ideal candidate will have some journalism experience, preferably in a radio or podcast setting, and an unquenchable curiosity about science and the way things work. You’ll be a stickler for detail, a fluid and fun writer who triple-checks facts, and skilled at selling your ideas to other science geeks. Bonus points if, like us, you’re obsessed with the microbiome. And while you may not be an expert on quantum entanglement, you’d at least enjoy a week’s worth of phone calls about it. Oh, and do you follow us on Twitter?
Please email a resume, cover letter with links to three examples of your work (audio, video or written is fine); and one 150-200 word SciFri story pitch to: Alexa Lim, radiointern@sciencefriday.com, subject: “Summer 2019 Radio Internship.”
The deadline to apply is Friday, March 22, 2019.
The Science Friday Initiative is firmly committed to seeking qualified candidates for all job and internship openings and offers equal employment opportunity to all persons.
