Researchers have been able to build a fabric-based camera out of a mesh of light-sensitive fibers. Writing in the journal Nano Letters, a team at MIT describes engineering optoelectronic fibers capable of detecting the direction and wavelength of incident light. The team then used those fibers to build an assembly of those fibers that can detect images without the use of a lens. We'll talk about the work, potential uses for the technology, and other advances in photonics.
