From Lab to Pharmacy
This week, Harold Varmus was sworn in as director of the National Cancer Institute. He's no stranger to government science, having headed the NIH during the 1990s before a stint as head of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Dr Varmus shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1989 for studies of the genetic basis of cancer. We'll talk with him about science, politics, and the route from basic research to medical treatments.
