What does melting permafrost look like? How do plants grow in twenty hours of sunlight? SciFri is back in the New York area, but we’ll be posting videos from Alaska that look at these topics.
Here’s a preview: when we visited Denali National Park, we caught up with Debra Rich, who recently got a Ph.D. in horticulture from Cornell University in New York and now runs a greenhouse for Camp Denali, a lodge in the middle of the park. She talked to us about the challenges of growing food in Alaska. Rich says when it comes to sunlight, for example, it’s possible to have too much of a good thing.
