I come from a long line of serious embroiderers. Forget the doilies and Christmas ornaments; I’m talking 10-foot long tablecloth types, who work on projects for months on end and actually FINISH them. Meanwhile somewhere in my attic, a box I feel ashamed to either keep or throw away holds an array of half-stitched unicorns, daisies, faeries, and various inspirational sayings. (“A sister is a forever friend!”)
I probably would have gotten a bit more excited about embroidery if I had Emily Wilmarth’s patterns to work on when I was learning the ropes. Beetles. Octopuses. Cells with organelles. There’s a whole biology class to pick from. You can see her patterns and some finished works at theflossbox.com
. She also offers cross stitch designs and for those of you who know your needlework, biscornu patterns.
